Welcome to the New Witty Profiles!

What’s new? A lot, but not too much.

Witty Profiles has a new look (obviously!)

The biggest change is that Witty Profiles now uses a responsive design that works well on most devices (big monitor, laptop, tablet, ipod, phone). All the old functionality is there, but some of it has new buttons or has moved around a little bit.

New Profile Features

It is now easier to make your profile look good. A few new fields have been added to let you easily control things like backgrounds, colors, music, and cursors.

New Profile Picture Editor

You can now crop your profile picture when you update it. This prevents your face from getting squished or stretched in the small versions of your picture used around the site. The bug that made it seem like your picture hadn’t been updated when it really had been updated has been fixed too.

See Only the Quotes You Want to See

As Witty has grown, we have grown more diverse. Not everyone is interested in the same things. It is now possible to prevent quotes by specific users from showing in the lists of quotes around the site. Don’t like One Direction? Ignore users who post One Direction quotes. Don’t like long stories? Ignore users who write long stories. To ignore a user, search for them in the User Search box under the “People You Might Like” section.

Easily Manage Who You Follow (and Block)

Your profile now has a full list of everyone you follow and everyone following you. The list has buttons to unfollow so you can stop following those pesky people who tricked you into following them.

Bug Fixes

It’s not very exciting, but a number of bug fixes have been made and some stuff is faster (quote editor).

More Stuff on the Way

In the coming weeks, new features will appear. I hope to add things like going through more than 50 pages of quotes, replying to comments (maybe), setting your profile picture from a URL instead of uploading a file, and more. Please continue to send feedback and bugs using the feedback form at the bottom of the page.

Why did you change Witty?

The old Witty code was showing its age and needed changes. The new design is based on HTML5 and features a responsive design to support the many devices, browsers, and screen resolutions people are using today that didn’t exist only a few years ago. I also wanted to add some new features (ignoring people and new profile fields) to support the increasingly diverse user base. Not everyone likes the same things and some of these new features let people filter out stuff they aren’t interested in.

Thanks!

Steve
